First-time cruises

Planning your first cruise? We can help.

Never cruised before? You don't need to know anything about the ships, cabin categories, or packages to get started. Tell us a little about the trip you're imagining, and we'll help you figure out the rest.

Start with your vacation

Start with the kind of vacation you want.

There's no single best cruise line for every first-time traveler. The right choice depends on who's going, how you like to spend your days and where you want to explore.

Find your cruise line

Compare the activities, dining and pace of Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, MSC, Norwegian, Princess, Virgin Voyages and more. A busy family ship and a quieter adults-only sailing can feel like very different vacations.

Match ship and itinerary

We look at sea days, time in port, departure logistics and the facilities on the actual ship. A short sailing may suit a quick getaway; a longer itinerary gives you a different rhythm and more time to settle in.

Compare the whole cost

Start with the cruise fare, then account for transportation, pre-cruise stays, gratuities, packages and excursions. We explain which costs are included, optional or payable separately for your chosen fare.

Stateroom choices

A room that fits how you'll travel.

Cabin location matters as well as cabin type. We review deck plans, proximity to public areas, potential noise, motion and occupancy before you choose.

Interior

An enclosed room without an outside window, often the most economical option. A good starting point if you expect to spend most of your time around the ship and ashore.

Oceanview

A window or porthole brings in daylight without a private outdoor space. Check whether the view is obstructed and whether the room's layout fits your party.

Balcony

A private outdoor space for fresh air and sea views. Balcony sizes, privacy and cabin locations differ, so the category name alone doesn't tell the whole story.

Suite

More space or a different layout, sometimes with additional services. Suite benefits vary widely; we compare what is actually included rather than assuming all suites offer the same experience.

Before you book

Understand the extras and avoid surprises.

Drink packages, Wi-Fi and gratuities

A package isn't automatically better value. We compare the drinks you expect to order, how connected you want to be and the fare's service-charge arrangements. Inclusions, limits and gratuity rules depend on the cruise line and fare; we'll confirm the details before booking.

Promotions and package pricing

A lower headline price can come with fewer inclusions or different deposit and cancellation terms. We compare applicable offers on the same basis and check eligible promotions and onboard credit without promising a benefit on every sailing.

Common booking pitfalls

Avoid choosing solely by price, assuming a guaranteed cabin lets you pick its exact location, or leaving departure-day travel too tight. We'll discuss your arrival plans, review travel-document requirements for your itinerary and explain important payment deadlines.

What to share with us

Tell us your dates, departure preferences, travelers' ages, comfortable total budget and must-haves. Accessibility needs, dietary requests and whether you prefer lively days or a relaxed pace help us narrow the options early.

Personal help
